Cancer victim’s family wins £50m payout from Johnson & Johnson
Johnson & Johnson was yesterday ordered to pay $72m (£51m) to the family of a woman who claimed her ovarian cancer was caused by talcum powder. More than 1,000 people have sued the company over its talc-based products, but this was the first time it has had to pay damages. A jury in the US agreed the company had failed to warn users of possible dangers despite the American Cancer Society raising concerns about a link between talc and ovarian cancer in 1999.
