It has shown in a survey of 1,554 adults that 55% want all will-writers to be regulated. The survey also showed almost 90% of respondents who had a will drafted by a solicitor were satisfied with the process.

A recent YouGov poll, commissioned by the Law Society in England, has shed light on the public’s views regarding regulated will-writing services. The research explores how consumers feel about the importance of professional guidance when preparing their wills and the perceived benefits of using regulated will-writing services, such as those offered by solicitors.

According to the findings, there is growing concern among the public regarding the risks associated with unregulated will-writing services. A significant portion of respondents expressed a preference for legal professionals when drafting their wills to ensure that their wishes are accurately reflected and legally sound. Many participants cited the assurance that regulated will-writing services provide, especially in ensuring that wills comply with the law and reduce the likelihood of disputes or errors that could invalidate the document.

The survey also highlighted that more than half of the public are unaware of the risks associated with using unregulated providers, underlining the need for increased public awareness and education on the matter. Respondents overwhelmingly agreed that having a regulated professional oversee the will-writing process can offer peace of mind, knowing that their estate will be managed according to their specific desires upon their passing.

The Law Society, which represents solicitors in England and Wales, continues to advocate for the regulation of the will-writing industry. The findings from this research provide valuable insights into the public’s confidence in solicitors and emphasize the importance of ensuring that the will-writing process remains under the guidance of qualified professionals. With more people recognizing the value of regulated services, the Law Society aims to continue raising awareness about the benefits of seeking professional legal advice when it comes to writing a will.
