Property Law Scam Warning DNDLAW Solicitors Newry

Scammers turn to conveyancing
Fraudsters are increasingly posing as solicitors in order to con house buyers out of thousands of pounds. The scammers typically pose as a buyer’s solicitor and send emails to their victims informing them of a change in bank details and requesting that money is paid into a new account.
According to the British Bankers’ Association, financial providers have different policies when compensating victims for fraud, and the Sunday Telegraph says that conveyancing fraud victims have frequently been unable to recover stolen money.
Lee Shrimpton of the SRA in England suggested the onus was on both law firms and consumers to keep themselves safe. He said: “Our approach is to highlight issues with law firms and ask them to ascertain what they must do to mitigate against such risks.”
