EU data fines

Business could face higher fines for data protection breaches  New laws proposed by the European Parliament could see businesses operating in the EU fined up to 4% of their annual global turnover for breaching data protection rules. The new rules would replace a patchwork of national laws dating back to 1995. Businesses have pushed back against higher fines, arguing they would deter investment in data-based services in Europe.
