A teenage boy has been awarded £3,000 after bringing a racial discrimination claim against Tesco. The 13-year old boy, of mixed race, was stopped and searched at a Tesco store in Maida Vale, west London, in November. He claimed that his arm was grabbed and he was taken into an office without being told why he was being held. Tesco said the boy was suspected of shoplifting but no stolen items were found on him. A spokesman for Tesco said the company had agreed to settle the case without admitting liability. Nick Webster, the boy’s lawyer from Leigh Day, said: “We doubt this is the only incident of this sort and hope that this case will make Tesco look at how they train their staff on equality and diversity.”
