Amazon has been accused of failing to stop fraud on customers’ accounts, raising questions about whether its pursuit of easier one-click ordering and super-speedy delivery is leaving people vulnerable to hackers. For its part, Amazon says its systems are secure and contends that problems occur when customers are lax with their log-in information. A spokesman said: “We do know that personal account information is often obtained by scam artists who send unsolicited emails to users asking them to ‘update’ their information. Please know that Amazon.co.uk employees will never ask for your password, or send an email asking you to verify personal information. We have sophisticated and rigorous fraud detection and prevention measures to protect our customers.”
