Retired teacher accused of sexual abuse approved for extradition to UK
The extradition of retired teacher Iain Wares, accused of sexually abusing pupils in Britain, has been approved by South Africa’s Justice Minister. Wares, 85, is set to face 74 charges after three judges at Western Cape High Court ruled he could be sent to the UK. He is alleged to have preyed on boys at two prestigious Scottish schools in the 1960s and 1970s. The move was welcomed by BBC presenter Nicky Campbell, who claims to have witnessed the teacher abusing boys. Wares is currently on trial in Cape Town on a charge of indecently assaulting a schoolboy in South Africa in 1988.
