Celebrity ‘threesome’ injunction: Bercow bans MPs from naming couple
Commons speaker John Bercow has banned MPs from revealing the identity of the “celebrity threesome” couple in the House of Commons. In today’s media-driven world, celebrities often find themselves under intense public scrutiny. With personal details frequently splashed across headlines, many public figures seek legal protection to maintain their privacy. This is where celebrity injunctions come into play.
At DND Law, we understand the delicate balance between freedom of the press and an individual’s right to privacy. A celebrity injunction is a court order that prevents the publication of specific information, whether it’s about a relationship, financial matters, or personal activities. These injunctions are often sought in cases involving harassment, defamation, or unauthorised disclosures of private life details.
There are different types of injunctions, including anonymised injunctions, where the identities of the parties involved are kept confidential, and super-injunctions, which not only prevent the publication of specific details but also prohibit mentioning the existence of the injunction itself.
While these legal tools are essential for protecting personal privacy, they must be balanced against public interest. Courts carefully consider whether the information in question is genuinely private or if its disclosure serves a greater public purpose.
At DND Law, we specialise in media law and can guide you through the complex process of applying for an injunction. Whether you’re a public figure seeking to safeguard your reputation or someone facing unwanted media attention, our experienced legal team is here to help.
