MP warns of landlords using Airbnb to dodge rules and taxes
Iain Wright, the chairman of the House of Commons Business Committee, has warned that professional landlords in London are using websites like Airbnb to dodge rules and taxes in a way which can leave tenants vulnerable. He has written to Mayor Sadiq Khan on the matter, asking if a change in the law is needed. While the law says people can rent out their house without permission but only for fewer than 90 nights every year, Mr Wright claims some landlords are letting properties through companies such as Airbnb for longer, driving up prices for rented accommodation.
